Message The less load on an engine means less wear and tear. Stripping a chassis decreases the weight, thereby decreasing the engine load. Furthermore it decreases the load on suspension components, braking mechanisms, etc. You could argue that you would see higher speeds, so the braking load decrease would be nominal, but the fact is you're going balls to the wall braking before turns so it's probably still a braking stress decrease overall.

Guapo was probably referring to the performance differential between NA and TT and suggested stripping as a mechanism to even the playing field, but you asked for a basis for stripping increasing reliability, so there you go =).
